AI Update: Huang, Musk, Contradictions and Diatribe
Jensen Haung said in Fortune Mag – Plumbers will be in high demand, then he reports in Tom’s Hardware Article, he says to employees who discourage AI use, “Are you Insane?” assuring them that AI won’t take their jobs. The message here is simple – he doesn’t know.
Hinton and Bengio are warning that AI will not perform as expected, and no ROI is possible. Recent posts by Fabio Ciucci on LinkedIn are showing a leveling off of infrastructure investment in Artificial Intelligence, as companies and organizations pull back, hopefully before a huge collapse of the systems that are already having problems.
Elon Musk says to Fortune, Work and Money will be optional, then says everyone will own a humanoid robot, of course, it’s the Optimus Robot, a new company focusing on AI Robots that will take the place of Tesla Cars, in a Yahoo Finance Article, again pointing out that Robots will provide a Universal Income.
Elon Musk’s robots can’t function without an operator in the wings with a remote control. About as awesome and functioning just as well as the CyberTruck – Predictions of the future from these people are and always have been self-aggrandizing, self-promoting, and often self-worried.
It doesn’t take a complex analysis of how the development of AI as a business model is going to see that most of these articles are useless promotional predictions.
So why do so many people follow what these men say?
Why is what they say the cover story for most digital magazines?
They are not dumb men, but neither are they geniuses.
Elon Musk made a clumsy effort at running DOGE and Twitter. One is a hollow shell of its former self, the other disbanded completely—the obvious result of an attempt to force out a progressive mindset, which didn’t work. Lots of harm, but little power shift.
Jensen Huang has built his company, but with the help of a stellar team that does the heavy lifting.
Still, these are the people who inhabit the most popular media about AI. While AI scientists call for them to stop, companies like Google and Amazon push forward into the same space occupied by NVIDIA and Tesla, Planatir, and OpenAI, and lastly, Ellison at Oracle.
These are not cutting-edge organizations; they are mostly building mediocre products that have huge resources behind them. The scientists call for a pause, while the conglomerate monopolies build wealth and sink AI for the profit that will never arrive.
Money, of course.
We are no longer spectators – Artificial Intelligence is creating the need for those who would have watched from the sidelines to step in and take the ball from the quarterback media, who are throwing it to the billionaires, and throw it to the scientists.
It breaks the rules, upsets the gentry, makes us all suspect, but to whom does it do that, Theil, Ellison, Murdock, Musk, Huang, the rest of that crowd?
Break some rules, cause some Good Trouble, follow science.
